Tipping the Velvet Series

"Tipping the Velvet" refers to both Sarah Waters' 1998 historical debut novel and the 2002 BBC television mini-series adaptation of it, both of which follow the story of Nan King (or Astley), a young woman who falls in love with a male impersonator, Kitty Butler, in late 19th-century England. The story is a coming-of-age tale exploring lesbian culture in the Victorian era, featuring Nan's adventures as she navigates the city's underworld and seeks true love.
